Our thoughts on Joseph Bruchac’s visit...
On Monday, October 29, 2007, Native American Author and Storyteller, Joseph Bruchac visited our school.  He enchanted the students with his tales and got everyone excited about reading.

When asked about his visit, here’s what our students had to say:

The story he told us taught us that if you believe in yourself, your dreams will come true. -Amy

I liked the story about the manbear because it gave a great lesson to kids.  -Nicco

I liked how he calmed us using his flute. - Charlotte

When Joseph Bruchac came to our school, it was a big treat.  He told us stories from his culture, and talked to us about his books. -Megan

Joseph Bruchac was interesting and taught me a lot about Native Americans and their beliefs.  I like the story about how the Dirty Clothes defeated the bear by his wits and then became the tall, beautiful man.  -Sawyer

I remember when I was a little girl, and I loved listening to the stories my mom told me because they taught me valuable lessons.  Listening to Joseph Bruchac brought back a lot of great memories for me. -Kylee

I think that Joseph Bruchac was interesting.  His stories were entertaining, and they also taught lessons.  -Brian

I bought one of his books called Skeleton Man, and I can’t wait to read it.  -Taylor

Joseph Bruchas was a good storyteller.  He told us about Wampanoag stories and other Native American stories.  -Gabriella

I think it was cool that he played the drums. -Dunovan

Joseph Bruchac tells stories, and stories are a good way to express your feelings and learn lessons.  -Charlie

The lesson I learned from Joseph’s stories was that no matter what you look like, you can do anything you set your mind to. -Matt

From Joseph Bruchac’s stories, I learned that you can’t judge someone by what they look like.  -Erik

He told a story about never judging a person by how much money they have because he/she could be  a person who does something amazing.  -Sabrina

I really enjoyed his visit.  I always like listening to stories, so this was like my dream assembly.  I really like him for a lot of reasons.  He was funny and could relate to kids. -Sophie
