Dear Parents/Guardians:

As we prepare for the opening of school on September 8, I look forward to working alongside our dedicated faculty and staff at the Edgartown School and welcoming your children back for the start of the 2021-2022 school year. It will be wonderful to have all of our students and staff back in the building for five full days of in-person learning in September! Last year, we worked together as a school community, during the most challenging year any of us could have imagined. I am confident that we are ready to begin the new year as a united school community.

This year we are planning for what we hope will be a more typical school year. Students will be able to move from class to class and Unified Arts teachers, who were asked to travel from room to room last year, will be back in their classrooms. I fully expect that the year will be filled with multiple learning opportunities that encourage curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.

Look for important communications from the Superintendent’s Office regarding health and safety protocols and updated guidance from The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). He will resume his weekly Parent Forums via Zoom.

This Back to School Packet contains important information for the start of the school year. Please review it carefully. All of the forms and information mentioned in this packet can be found on the school’s website at www.edgartownschool.org. It is extremely important that you notify the Main Office 508-627-3316 whenever there is a change in any contact information such as phone number, address, etc.

Our Parent Teacher Association, (PTA) is dedicated to making this school a better place to learn. Please consider joining this wonderful organization. PTA President Brooke Leahy, Vice President Jen O’Hanlon, Treasurer Michelle Oteri and Secretary Claire Crowell plan to meet with the administration before school begins to discuss the schedule of events for the upcoming school year. Guidance from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and our local Health and Safety Committee will help to advise us with regard to what type of school access will be permitted for the upcoming year and what type of events are going to be allowed.

At this point, we are planning to hold as many outdoor events as possible. The first outdoor event of the year will be the annual outdoor picnic for entering kindergarten students and their families on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 5:00PM. Invitations will be sent to incoming Kindergarten students and their families very soon.

The Edgartown School Committee will hold its first meeting of the school year on September 8 at 5:00pm. Please look for the agenda that will be posted on the school calendar at least 48 hours before the meeting. School Committee meetings are generally held on the second Wednesday of each month. All are welcome to attend.

The improvement of our school is a collaborative effort between all of our stakeholders: faculty, staff, families, community members, and students. The School Advisory Council, (SAC) developed The Edgartown School Improvement Plan (2020-2022) with four broad target areas: Re-Entry Post School Closure/COVID-19, Remote Learning, Professional Collaboration, and Equity for All Students. This year we will focus on Professional Collaboration and Equity for All Students. Updates on these goals will be provided during the school year.

Open House and Curriculum Nights have traditionally been held in September and early October. We will be in touch with you to let you know when, and in what format, these events will be scheduled.

Our school lunch program will begin on September 8. This year, once again, lunch will be free for all Edgartown students. More information will be sent to you soon.

We are in the process of launching a new school website within the next two weeks that will be one of the nicest school websites in the state. Special thanks to our IT Administrator, Darren Belisle, for helping to make this new website possible.

Thank you for taking the time to review the important information in this packet. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I wish you and your family continued good health.

Warm regards,

Shelley Einbinder, Ed.D.
